An exhibition of mid-century abstract expressionist paintings by Robert M. Church is on view at Canessa Gallery, 708 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, 415-296-9029, during March. Opening is March 4, 2001, 5 – 8 PM. Selected works from the collections of his children span his twenty-year administrative and academic career in the arts.
Church’s career included stints at the San Francisco Museum of Art under Grace L. McCann Morley, Director of Philbrook, Tulsa, Vice-President, California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, Professor, University of Arizona, Tucson and Assistant Professor at San Francisco State College.
The show represents a vigorous response to major questions of abstract expressionism. Vivid performance captures a world that transforms the bounds of the human condition in monumental scale.
